William Dean was born in about1889 in or near Uniontown, Fayette County, PA, the son of Isaac N. and Mary "Belle" (Minerd) Dean. Little is known of his life.

A bachelor at age 21, in 1910, he dwelled with his parents in Lemont Furnace near Uniontown and earned a living as a driver in a local coal mine. 

Nothing more is known.
