Margaret Jane (Sheppard) Minerd, wife of Rev. Isaac Herschel Minerd, painted this still life scene sometime in the 1870s or 1880s. There are several basic elements in the scene -- a Bible, candle-stick, pair of spectacles, book, black glasses case and newspaper, the Pittsburg Gazette. They rest on a tabletop, and are set against the backdrop of a red fabric. Flecks of paint have fallen off the painting over the years, and the artwork is in need of conservation. During their married life, the Minerds resided in Mount Pleasant, New Haven (Connellsville), Uniontown and Pittsburgh, PA. Isaac and his son, Roy Sheppard Minerd, were organizers and officers of the first annual Minerd Reunion of 1913. Click for next artifact Copyright © 2006 Mark A. Miner |
