Letters from Lester White to Helen - March 22, 1890

Return to Index

March 22 [1890?]

Dear Sister & Bro,

I suspect you think it about time we were ans-- that letter of yours and I guess it is. I will commence mine tonight & Sue can finish when she pleases for I dont have time to write much in day time. Late rec-- your letter yesterday & brought it down for us to read this morning. I have just finished looking over the Laredo paper you sent & find lots of names I know and lots I dont. I think you are having lots of mud. While we are having fine roads. I would seam very strange to us to see such bad roads for we never have them here. We are having fine weather now & the wheat looks so nice. People have pastured their wheat all winter. some who have large fields of it havent fed their cattle a bight only while the big snow lasted.

Well Blanche has just come to me for her good night kiss. She always comes around to all of us before she goes to bed for her kiss. She is a sweet little Dumpling & we could not get along without her for she is just as dear to us as if she was our own. Dick is at Kingman yet. Hellen you would not know that town now for it is a little city now. it has 3 rail roads & 4 salt wells with Electric light on the main streats.

I dont see why you did not come home with Mrs Sellars for I know if you had just wanted to you could. for we dont wair silks out here and you had cloths good enough to come to see your poor relations. it would have done Pa so much good to have saw you. I fear you will put off coming too long and you will never get to see him alive. he is well and gaining in flesh & is in good spirits. you bet he is all Alliance and I bet he could convert Will if he could get to see him for he reads so much & is well posted on the Political questions of the day. He is no Republican now. & Will will see the day if he lives that he wont be one either for you dont know what is befor you. But you will say Oh that is all Bosh (wait until 1892 & you will see)

I guess you had some fun after the Fox but if you wer out here you could have just as much fun after Cyeoats. there has been lots of them captured this winter and they run about as far as a Fox on a chase. there is one fellow here that has 11 hounds & they make music when they get strung out after one. they always circle on the run.

Tom Roby staid here last night. he starts East in the morning with a car load of Hogs. they live in Medicine Lodge now but Tom is away from home almost all the time buying stock & shiping. he is getting quite gray & looks old. what did you think of the soietys Photos? I supose you knew some of them. I think them good for being taking out of doors. They are a Jolly set when they all get together. I suppose you have made some Garden by this time. we made some a month ago. Everybody is sowing Oats now. there will be a big acreage sown this spring. I want to plant corn the first of next month. some are planting now. but I dont think there will be much planted before the first of the month. Well I'll half to quit or get some more paper & I expect you wish I would quit but I'll venture another half sheat. Robys have moved to the Lodge to send Frank & Nellie to school & will keep some boarders. Nellie taught last winter & Berts school is not out yet.
