Quilter: Armena (Cain) Miner Marshall

This colorful quilt was created by Armena (Cain) Miner Marshall of Washington, PA and used by her son and daughter in law, Odger and Monalea (Ullom) Miner, of Hopewell Twp., near Aliquippa, Beaver County, PA. The detail may be seen at left.

This quilt later was given to Odger and Monalea's youngest son, Donald William Miner, and thence to Donald's daughter, Heather Ann Miner, of Western Massachusetts. It measures 74 inches x 80 inches.

The story behind this quilt is that Odger often gathered bags of rags for his work at Peoples Natural Gas Company, and also in his own gas appliance service business. He would pull out and save any that he thought would be pretty in a quilt. Monalea would would wash and iron them before giving them to Odger's mother. Some of these rags are believed to have been used for this quilt.
