Isabel Kans
April 13th 1890

Dear Sister & family,

I will write some to you this morning as pa Mabel & Jenny has gone to sundy school. We are all well except bad colds. this is a bright sun shiney day but the wind is blowing pretty hard. We are having a grate deal of wind this spring. more than comon. & I guess thay are having more all over acording to the farmers. did you have a big wind storm up thare on the 27 of last month. I dont think I ever saw the wind blow as hard here as it did that day. We have had plenty of rain. Wheat looks well oats are looking well. I have 10 ack of wheat & 8 of oats. thare is a great meny has planted corn. I will comence this week but I will fix our syclone house first so if thare is a big storme comes up we will have a hole to go into. Our new preacher comes on to day. thare will be preaching at 3 oclock this afternoon. His name is Rollins. Now hellen you need not wory so much about pa for he is well and is up and around all the time & looks after his hogs. he has got a fine bunch of them and he thinks lots of them. and more than that if he should get sick I would let you know. you need not think that I would keep enything of kind from you for I know you would want to know it. you spoke of writing a card. now we never got eny card from you. I wrote to you as soon as he took the grip and told you as near as I could how he was and if he was to take sick again I would sit write down and write to you and let you know Just how he was. Well we had quite a fire in Isabel the other day. Joe Morises little boys got som maches & went out to his stable and went inside & set it afire. We ran up thare to do what we could but it was to late to do much good. it burnt a poney of Luther halvers and a sadle & some corn & oats & burnt thar chicken house & some hay and harness. Edd Carters little boy ray died the 4 of this month and was buired the 5th. thay take it pretty hard. Olie look like she had had a spell of sickness. he never had been very well since he had the grip. you asked if We heard from dick very often. yes We do. We have had just one letter from him since he went down thare. Well I will haft to get some more paper if I write eny more.

Mabel talkes about you, she said she would like to go up thare and go to school this sumer. she got to talking about you the other day and telling how you had thing in the house and I guess she told it as it was. she told whare every window and dore was and whare your stove sit & whare your long table sit and all about it. then she said she sent to a babtising over thare by the mill. she said they went in to water on the south side of the mill. And thay took hold of them and just soused them under. she said thare was a girl babtised that had a blue dress on. She did not know hoo she was. Now did she tell it wright or not. I expect she will want to write some when she comes home. she thinks she can write. When we get a letter from you she will stand & listen while I read it. the last letter you writ she wanted to know if ross and blanchie write some. oh I do want to see you so bad I dont know what to do and I want to see Ross & blanch. I can see them as thay looked when I left thare but I dont expect I would know them now. but I dont know when I will get to come up thare. I did think I would get to come this fall. I don’t know whether I will or not. I could hardley leave pa to take care of everything as long as I would want to stay up thare. and then if I could come I would rather stay and let him go in my place for I think you would enjoy a visit with him better than me. it seems like a long time since I saw you. all of the rest have seen you since I have. why cant you come down and see us. you can get away better than I can.

Well diner is over and thay have gone to meeting. My bad cold was so bad I would not go. so I am here alone. I wish you wer here with me, I guess thare is a big crowd thare by the looks of the teams. no Less did not go to the strip but says he is going when it opens. I guess thare is a great many that will go then. Well hellen, I have writen all I can think of. I guess Junney will write some tonight. Now write soon. you can write more news than I can for you have more to write about. I will stop for this time. Write soon.

from your ugley brother Layton
