Letter Fragment from Nett to Helen -
Late January or Early February 1888

Return to Index

[Editor's note: this letter was written during Luther White's visit to the home of his daughter Helen (White) Clark in Laredo, MO in January 1888. See Nett's letter to Helen dated Jan. 19, 1888.]

(4) Dick says tell Ross that he will send him a History of the Animal Kingdom. he will mail it to him today. I hope he will like it & Mabel had to make her little mark in it so him & Blanchie can see it. It was sent to Dick but he dont care anything about it. Pa will tell you about it. Mabel has looked at all the old Happy Toads. Aunt Lyd said Nell & Frank talks of coming up here Sun. It seems Nell thinks more about coming here than she use to. Aunt Lyd looks so much like Ma. nearly everybody is waiting till Pa comes home before they will come here so I expect when it rains it will pour. Its to bad Pa could not enjoy his cake better after you took so much pains with it. I wish I could had a piece of it for I know it was good. Late has come from Shermans & said that Mrs Williams & Mrs Sherman went to the Lodge today. I think they have strong constitution & complections to face this wind for its regular old March weather out & out. I wonder if its so up there. its to bad Pa didnt get up there sooner so you could had better roads to go around on. I think if your mud was out here the wind would soon crust it over. Poor old Peg died. We’ll bury him so the crows cant pick his bones. I can see the dear old hoss yet as he use to trot off to Trenton so willingly. I expect to hear of old Fred dog going next. Our Frisk has got well & the biggest hog to eat I ever saw. he remind me of old Tiger. Dick feels better & is setting up by the stove. he says the Dr wont need to come down. Late has come in & says his farm is black with cattle. the Scotchmen has bought his stalks to pasture. Well I guess, I have wrote all you will care about reading this time. I wonder if you will get this Sat by sending it off today. I have not got the papers you spoke of yet. Most any aged paper is something to read. No I wont scold Pa any more for you know I did not know all. Well I must quit & start Late to the office. with lots of love & kisses from all to all. Pa can stay as long as he wants. Nett & Mabel would like to see him to but he must get his visits all made & see everything he can so he can tell us lots.

goodby as ever from your sister Nett
