Taking a break at a 2009 national conference of entertainment executives, Douglas Edwin Minerd enjoys a relaxing 30-minute swim with bottlenose dolphins at SeaWorld's Discovery Cove in Florida. At the time this image was made, he was Vice President of Entertainment at SeaWorld San Antonio. During a typical dolphin interaction at Discovery Cove, guests learn about dolphin behavior and communication through hugs, kisses and rubdowns. After the experience, guests can view photographs and video of their interactions and talk about their experience with trainers and other participants. Doug is the son of the late Robert Edwin and Gloria (Brush) Minerd, and grandson of inaugural Minerd Reunion founder Dr. Roy Sheppard and Nell (Penn) Minerd. His resume includes experience in commercial entertainment, theme parks, media and communications, brand development, music production, educational program development, film, theater, attractions, immersive environments as well as interactive and new media. His work includes more than 30 years at some of America's best known themed attractions, regional and off-Broadway theatre, technology and media startups, music production and business development. He began his career as music coordinator at Cedar Point Amusement Park, followed by 17 years as director and manager of entertainment at Busch Gardens Williamsburg, and nine years as vice present of entertainment at SeaWorld San Antonio and San Diego. Today he is principal of Minerd Music Works LLC, creating custom scores for the stage, media, commerce and education.
