Maggie A. Minerd
(1873-1876)

Alverton Cemetery
Margaret "Maggie" A. Minerd
was born on March 9, 1873, the daughter of Eli and Mary Ann (Baer) Minerd.

Sadly, her span of days on earth were short. At the age of three, Maggie came down with a deadly case of diphtheria in the summer of 1876. She did not recover, and passed away on Aug. 24, 1876.

A short obituary in the Mount Pleasant Dawn simply reads: "Miner: On Monday the 21st of diphtheria infant daughter of Eli of Bridgeport."

Her tiny remains were laid to rest in what became the Minerd family plot at Alverton Cemetery west of Mt. Pleasant. A simple grave marker was placed there as a permanent memorial to her brief life. The marker is seen here as photographed in March 1990.

Later, Maggie would be joined there in death by her parents and brother William, who was killed in a tragic railroad accident in 1906.
