Rev. Isaac Herschel Minerd, a Methodist preacher, skilled carpenter and president of the first annual Minerd Reunion made this piano chair as a wedding gift on Dec. 25, 1908, for his son Albert S. Minerd and his bride Ethel Buchanan. They in turn gave it to their daughter Margaret Minerd and her husband, Leonard Daw as a gift on their wedding day in the early 1930s. The seat of the chair is hinged at the back, and tilts up to reveal an open space for storing sheet music for piano playing. When the Daws' son Merle inherited the chair, and decided to restore it, he had to removed 10 separate coats of paint. Displayed at our 2006 reunion, the chair glows with its original wood grain finish. Click for next artifact Copyright © 2006 Mark A. Miner |
