Harry Orlan Miner was a talented wood worker and carpenter who built houses and office buildings in Washington, PA in the early 1900s and 1910s. Among other items for his own household, Harry built this straight-backed oaken chair as part of a set of eight. It features 38 mortise and tenon joints, all cut by hand, with no nails. The original leather seat, now dried out and cracked, is attached to the wood frame with 23 rounded rivets. The top of the seat back is 38.75 inches from the floor. The chair sat in the basement of the home of Harry's son Odger Miner for many years in Aliquippa, PA. Click for next artifact Copyright © 2006 Mark A. Miner |
