NASA Commendation Letter to Albert Philip McCabe
Courtesy of His Daughter, Aimee L. McCabe-Walker

Our late cousin Aimee L. McCabe-Walker graciously provided an important artifact -- a commendation letter to her late father, Albert Philip McCabe, signed by all the NASA astronauts in the Apollo spacecraft program.

The son of Homer and Blanche (Minerd) McCabe of Uniontown, PA, Albert moved to Southern California and played a key role in the engineering design of the Apollo rocket navigation systems, in the heady days leading up to the historic Moon landing in July 1969.

Among the signatures are those of Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin and Michael Collins -- the first men to walk on the Moon -- and of Edward White, Virgil 'Gus' Grissom and Roger Chaffee -- who lost their lives in a cockpit fire during the testing of the Apollo I rocket.
