Ohio farmer and teamster Jacob Minerd Jr. stands beside his wagon and team of horses sometime in the early 1900s near Guysville, Athens County. Jake was the son of Jacob and Ruth (Adams) Minerd Sr., whose marriage in the early 1830s brought together the DNA of a Pennsylvania German husband and Native American wife. Tragically, Jake died at the far-too-young age of 53, a century ago, in April 1907, when he collapsed while planting potatoes.

A number of Jake's brothers and sisters married into the Mayle-Male family of Philippi, Barbour County, WV and Athens, OH, and are outlined on a special page on this website. Research of this branch of Minerds has been a major Minerd.com focus for the past several years, and will continue as more layers of the past reveal themselves to modern day researchers.
