Letter from Susan (McCarty) White to Helen - Jan. 11, 1891

Jan 11, 1891

Dear Sister,

Well Hellen Less wants me to finish this letter but I have written one letter to day & have been reading all evening & my eyes are tiard so I dident want to do it untill tomorrow but he wants to send it away tomorrow. I guess he is anxious for you to get the picture. Hellen I am sorry about Blanches on your account for I know you want to see how big she is. She is very large of her age & always did have an old look but then you shall have a better one some time. I wish Dick would come home on a visit & we would hich up & make him go with us & get their pictures if it took every cent he had. I dont think he could spend his last cent better. I believe you wanted to know if Dick came often to see the children. Well I dont call it very often. he was home in September the last. do you call that often. You wanted to know if Pa had good warm clothes. Yes his clothes are good. he dont go out much & dont do anything so he dont wear his clothes much. I make his clothes. that is his shirts & pants. he cant get pants to suit him. He has not bought a pair of pants since he was at your house.

Blanche is ready to go to bed & is giveing her good night kisses. wouldent you like to have one too. you ought too see her in her Britches & night bonnet as she says. I put a cap on her last night. I did not think she would want to wear it but she took up with it & calls it her night bonnet. She wont have it but what her night drawers are britches. Yes Hellen Pa does think so much of the children. Blanche is very Respectful to him but Mable is not. as she ought to be but then she has been babied so. I am affraid it will be hard to get her out of her baby ways. Now Hellen I dont want you to worry about Pa for he is happy. As Less has told you & it seems as he grows older the happier in the Lord he gets. it has been remarked so much that the older he gets the more religion he seems to enjoy. I have heard it remarked several times that if anybody got to heaven it would be Uncle Luther. Of course it would be a pleasure for both you & him if you could be together. but it seems it can not be so dont worry. my paper is full so I will close for this time Hoping to hear from you soon. I am as ever your loving Sister

Sue W.
