Dear Brother Late
we rec the sad news today at half past 12 oclock. I am sorry we cant come. it is such short notice and so unexpected. I sold my Jack and have to deliver him tomorrow and my stock has found the way in the corn field. I have about 5 loads out yet. I went to Gault this morning and did not get back until ½ past 12 was the reason I did not hear of the sad news. Jap was at town this morning and brought the telegram up. he would not give it to Hellen untill I came home. it was quite a shock to her. she said if she hadent just been their she would come. her and I was writing to you and Pa last knight telling him our plans about the children but little did we think we was talking to the dead. O how I would liked for him to have come up and spend the winter with us. but it is a debt we all have to pay sooner or later. we will write you again in a day or two. the train is about due. I will close with simpathy [to] you all.
G.W. Clark
