Letter from Layton White to Dick Bailey - Nov. 24, 1889

Isabel, Kans Nov 24th 1889

Dear Brother Dick

I will drop you a few lines in answer to your most welcome letter which I received yesterday. We were glad to here from you once more, for it had been so long since we had a letter from you. Well we are having nice weather now. I have been husking corn. My corn is turning out pretty well. I will get done on pa's this week if it dont storm. thare will be lots of corn stand out all winter for thay cant get hands enough to husk it. Roby has got a man from Comanchie Co. husking for him. I got a letter from Billy he got work in harper. What are you doing and when are you going to come home. Oh Dick we want to see you and Mabel so bad that we cant hardly wait. Pa will get out and walk around and say oh if I only could see Mabel. I was down to see Blanchie today. I asked her whare papa was and she would throe her little arm out and say away off and then she would call papa and sister. We are having just a splendid literary the house was chuck full last night. and when thay claped thare hands Blanchie would clap her little hands with the rest and laugh. Joe is putting in that spur for Tom Eads. I guess Jim Meets is working on the section now. how is times back thare. is thare lots of work to do. Joe says he wants to get some hands in the spring that will stay with him all summer. Thare is a great many thinks that the strip will come in this winter. if it does I want to go down. Less is at Medicine Lodge on the jury. will halft to stay about a month. Well we get lots of milk and make lots of butter. now come back and help us eat it up. Dick I sent your paper to Laclede. have you been up to your pas yet. I want you to go and see (?)eet White. he lives too ½ miles north west of Laclede. Sue says you promised to write to her and she wants you to do it. You never said whother you got my letter before you left Clarkes or not.

Well Mabel you said you was going to write to grandpa and uncle late. now I want you to write to us. And eat some big red apples for us. Pa says tell Mabel he wants to see her so bad he dont know what to doe. he wants you to hurry and come back sose he can talk to her. does she ever talk about us. pa says he expects she will eat so meny apples and so mutch honey that he wont hardley know her when she gets back.

Oh my how thay are haling the corn to Isabel. it has got back to 13cts. thay are running more tranes on this road than thay ever did. from 6 to 7 per day. does Mr. Cooleys think thay will come back with you when you come . We would lik very much to have them come if thay will. We will try and make it as plesant for them as we know how. now Dick you said you would write every week. now I dont want you to wait that long but I want you to answer this the next day after you get this. Now will you do it please doe. for we want to heare from you so bad. hellen has not answered my letter yet and Jenny says she wont write eny more till you answer her letter. the last we herd from uncle Jim he was shaking with the ague. but I think it would have a good time to shake ant lid. Now I am going to stop for this time. now remember I want you to answer this the next day after you get it and write a big long one too. give Mr Cooleys my best respects. good night. kiss Mabel for us.
