Catherine (Meinert) Eigner

Catherine (Meinert) Eigner, the daughter of Friedrich and Eva Maria (Weber) Meinert Sr., was born around 1733 in Philadelphia County, in what today is Berks County, PA.

Catherine married Johannes Eigner (June 15, 1733-1796), the son of John "Mathias" and Anna Elizabeth Eichner Sr., a name Americanized to "Eigner."

Johannes' father, born in Germany, sailed to America on the ship Molly and arrived in the port of Philadelphia on Sept. 30, 1727. The Eigners first settled in Lancaster County, PA before migrating to Macungie Township and acquiring land via a patent. They belonged to the Zion Lehigh Evangelical Lutheran Church, the same congregation as Catherine's sister and brother-in-law, Maria "Elizabeth" and Johann Dietrich Gaumer Sr. In fact, Johannes' sister Catherine had been Johannes Dietrich Gaumer's first wife.

Johannes himself was baptized during the year of his birth by Rev. Johann Casper Stoever.

The couple produced a family of five known children: Anna Elizabeth Deheven, Johannes Mathias Eigner, Johannes "Peter" Eigner Sr., Johannes Eigner and Maria Eva Eigner.

Catherine died around 1775 when she would have been age 42.

Johannes survived his wife by 21 years. He passed into eternity on July 20, 1796, and he is buried at the Zion Lutheran Church in Alburtis, PA.

The Eigners are spelled out in Myrtle (Knepper) Weniger's typescript work, The Gaumer Family and Allied Lines (Corvallis, OR: 1946).
