The 39th Laughery Reunion was held on Sunday Aug. 17th, 2003, at Wilmer Park in Chestertown MD, hosted by Nikki and Jamie Strong. Thirty-nine members were in attendance. The weather was sunny, not too hot, and the view of the Chester River was lovely. President Jerry Thompson welcomed everyone and had a minute of silence in memory of our deceased members. Ron Case gave the blessing and everyone enjoyed the good food that was shared. After dinner, Jerry called to order a short business meeting. Ron Case read the 2002 minutes and gave the treasurers report. There was a balance of $90 left from last year. The minutes were approved and it was noted that Teresa Thompson had passed away on Aug. 20th just after our last reunion. For new business, a motion was made by Ron Case that we compensate Nikki and Jamie for the part rental fee of $75. It was seconded by Jerry Thompson and everyone agreed. Other expenses included Postage $15.00 and entertainment $20.00 for a total of $110.00. It was decided that we would collect dues of $5.00 per family to cover the remaining $20.00 for this year’s expenses with some Moines left for next year. Sixteen family units paid $80.00, which left a balance of $60 in our treasury. New officers for next year were elected.
David and Vicky Laughery celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary at a surprise party given by their children at the home of David and Sharon Laughery. Bobby Thompson’s daughter Kati gave birth to a baby girl, Naomi Lark, on Aug. 14th, 2003. Keith and Mary Ann Winand, will co-host next year’s reunion with Steve and Janice Winand. The reunion will be held on either the third Saturday or Sunday in August at a place to be determined by the hosts. Jerry called for the meeting to be adjourned. The rest of the day was spent in good conversation, picture taking, and children’s games. Submitted by
