Sunday, August 16, 1998, the 34th annual family reunion of the family of David Leander Laughery and Martha Jane Harbaugh was held at the home of Clayton and Loretta Downes at Milton, DE. The weather was pleasant with 31 members attending.
Ronald B. Case, Pres., welcomed the guests and asked the blessing. A moment of silence was held in memory of our deceased loved ones. The many covered dishes were enjoyed with homemade ice cream and cakes for a special treat. Ronald B. Case called the meeting to order. Loretta L. Downes, Sec./Trea. read the 1997 minutes and the treasury report. During 1997 Loretta had spent $71.00 from the treasury and compiled a Precious Moments to Remember acid free album. Before doing this, however she had called and discussed this with Nancy Thompson. This album contains very old old pictures dating back to the Civil War and was left to us in a box by Uncle Willey and Aunt Dorothy.
Harry Winand sent a list of family members, he had found on the computer. A letter from Isabelle Ream, Bill and Ginny Means and Harry and Lois Winand was passe4d around for all to read. Lois and Harry had moved up from Florida to live with Keith and Maryanne so Lois could be under the PA Special Doctors care. Maryanne being a nurse with professional knowledge was able to answer a lot of medical questions Lois had.
On January 14, 1998 Jeannette L. Passwaters passed away. She hade had Parkinson’s disease for several years. On January 23, 1998 N. Eugene Passwaters (Jeannette’s son) died of heart failure. Jeannette was buried beside her husband ( N.E.P. Sr.) in the older section of Odd Fellows Cemetery and Genie (N.E.P. Jr.) is buried in the new section of the Odd Fellows Cemetery in Milford, Del. April 1998 Michael Malagieri (Clayton Downes’ step-father) passed away. He is also buried in the new section of Odd Fellow Cemetery.
A card was signed by all and mailed to Lois in Pa. wishing her well. She was scheduled for surgery the next day. Karen and Matt were up from Florida. Group pictures were taken and Sheila Laughery with help from Bridgette and Vicky was in charge of the games. Fun was had by all.
1999 Reunion will be held at the home of David and Vicky in Seaford, DE. In 1997 the dues were reduced to $1.00 per person and $71.00 spent in 1998 for the album left a balance of $160.00. Dues collected in 1998 totaled $20.00 making a balance of $180.00 and Sheila did not take any money for the money she spent on the prizes etc., which we all thank her for her generosity.
