August 17, 1969 |
The fifth annual reunion was held on Sunday, August 17 at the home of Willis and Dorothy Laughery. The buffet dinner, games and fellowship were enjoyed by 52 family members and guests. It was a hot, sunny day with an occasional breeze and lots of mosquitoes. There were the games enjoyed by both young and old:
- Candy piñata
- Macaroni in a jar - won by Dorothy Laughery
- Lemon toss
- Clothes line race
- Eat a cracker and blow up a balloon until it bursts-won by Rell Winand and Kim Hellein
- Spoon cotton our of a bowl on top of head
- Peanut Scramble - won by Kim Downes
- Women’s pocketbook treasure hunt - won by Jed Means
- Winners of door prizes - Ruth Mangus, Lois Winand, Jed Means
- Oldest man - William Wilkerson
- Oldest Woman - Anna Mae Thompson
- Youngest - Brian Hellein
- Largest family - Alvin Thompson’s
- Family traveling longest distance - Donald Hellein’s - from Ohio
- Fisherman’s consolation prize - Alfred (Pete) Mangus
Everyone sang Happy Birthday to Karen Case who was 13 today. All present signed a get-well card for Ruth Wilkerson who is in the Milford Memorial Hospital with both legs in a cast. The business meeting was opened by President Robert Vincent. Secretary Lois Winand read the minutes and they were approved. Treasurer Ira Laughery read the treasurer’s report of $31.51, before today’s collection of membership dues.
A motion was made and seconded to buy a gift for Ruth Wilkerson.Dorothy Laughery purchased an album for pictures of each year’s reunion. Anyone with good pictures is asked to donate a cop of the same.

The business meeting was adjourned so that everyone could enjoy the six flavors of homemade ice cream before it melted. All agreed that it was delicious. A happy day was had by all! Respectfully submitted, Lois L. Winand, Sec.
