The
fourteenth annual reunion of the descendants of David
Leander Laughery and Martha Jane Harbaugh was held Aug. 20, 1978, at the
home of Clayton and Loretta Downes, in Milton, Del.
Ronald Case asked the blessing, then all enjoyed tempting casseroles, ham, chicken, turkey, sodas and ice tea. After dinner president, Harry Winand called the business meeting to order. He thanked Clayton and Loretta for the use of their home for the picnic. Sec.-Tres. JoAnn Moore read the minutes of last year’s gathering and the treasurer’s report.
It was decided that the picnic will be held at the house of Alvin and Nancy Thompson of Harrington, next year. Susie and Joe Gray will plan the entertainment and the officers will remain the same. Everyone present signed a “get well” message to be sent to Francis Martin of Dawson, Pa. A motion was made and seconded to raise the dues to $2.00 per year.
New members of the family this past year; Chad Moore, son of Chris and JoAnn Moore, born Oct. 5, 1977, Leroy Winand who married Ruth Laughery on Jan. 7, 1978, and Joe Gray who married Susie Thompson on Feb. 11, 1978. We also wish Vickie Laughery, who was married on Aug. 19, 1978, the best of luck.
Since no other business was to be discussed, Gene and Donna Passwaters took over with games for everyone. Prizes awarded:
- Youngest family member - Chad Moore, 10½ months
- Oldest family member - Arthur Laughery, 79 years
- Least hair - Clayton Downes
- Biggest foot - Tom Passwaters
- Traveled longest distance - Leroy and Ruth Winand
- Had a lottery ticket - Bobby Vincent

A traditional piñata ceremony provided the children much excitement. When the piñata was broken, a wild scramble ensued for the many pieces of candy. Everyone enjoyed homemade cake and ice cream; then slides of last year’s reunion were shown. The day was beautiful; sunny and in the 80’s with plenty of breeze and shade in the yard. Thirty-seven members were present:
